Martin McCarthy has over 20 years of experience in
scientific computing, design and development.
He is the author of Reality Architecture: Building 3D Worlds In Java And VRML and
The Procmail Companion as well as numerous journal and technical
magazine articles.
Martin has been heavily involved with network performance monitoring - he was the first chairman of the RIPE Test Traffic
Working Group and an active member of the IETF IP Performance Metrics
Working Group.
He has worked on firmware for graphics engines used in air-traffic
control, power station management and medical research whilst at
Ferranti Computer Systems. At Daresbury High-Energy Nuclear Physics
Research Laboratory he was one third of the team responsible for the
computer control of the Synchrotron Radiation Source particle
accelerator. Since then he has worked in healthcare, virtual reality
systems, automated information processing systems for intelligence work and developing free-text
and XML database engines.
Currently he is specialising in Natural Language Processing and automated document mark-up.
